#3 – Present

Present

He rests his head
right on my bosom
– calls me goddess

yet I hope
in the years to come
when my fruitful youth
withers up
He can still lie
and call upon me
like a goddess

  1. Love the play on “lie” at the end of #3: “He can still lie / and call upon me / like a goddess”. Reminds me of this part of Shakespeare’s sonnet 138: “When my love swears that she is made of truth / I do believe her, though I know she lies”.

    • It hadn’t even crossed my mind how eerily familiar it sounds like to Shakespeare’s sonnet. Although I’ve been up to knees in his work this past week or so, so that should explain how it landed in there.

Thank you so much for taking the time and leaving such an enriching comment .
